Document builder redesign

Mission

The document builder consolidates 6 legacy applications into 1 for investment advisors. My job was to make it easy to use while keeping all the functions.

Design research

I watched the 10 user interviews conducted by the UX researcher and noted my findings. I also researched the top document builders.

  1. Analyzing user interviews

Research notes on user interview pain points: same client with multiple report types, one report type across multiple clients, and the volume of manual report prep
  2. Competitor research

Competitor research notes on template creation, report editing, and the discoverability of the edit-table interaction

Low-fidelity

I made a revised user journey and low-fidelity sketches to show the senior product designer and product designer on our team.

Revised user journey for the document builder, from the Templates entry point through template creation and setup to the template builder
Notebook pages with low-fidelity sketches of the document builder

Final designs

I presented a full case study to the director of design and senior manager, including a journey for three different use cases.
